Samuel Stanford: Home

I’m a writer and composer with a wide range of capability and a resume that varies from producing and scoring short films to major label pop writing credits.

The immediacy of journalism strikes me as a brand of performance art, and that resonates deeply in my musician’s mind. Improvising over chord changes requires a large base of knowledge, technical skill and quick thinking in order to execute well. Music, like news, occurs in real time. If a chord change passes you by or you play the incorrect notes over it, that change is gone and the train has left the station. Stories and reports are disseminated instantaneously, and a nearly real time audience is watching every move and hanging on every word. The connection between the two is undeniable for me, and the skill set crosses over into both worlds.
